What defines the architecture of Casa Okil?
Casa Okil features a focused three-bedroom plan. It comprises three suites and five bathrooms without a separate office, designed specifically for occupants who want the architecture to quietly disappear into the routine.
What materials are used to create the home?
The architecture draws on the local Basque vernacular—including pitched roofs, working stone walls, and exposed timber framing—reinterpreted with contemporary geometry. The material palette incorporates stone floors, wooden structures, and stone-based pillars to ensure the home emerges seamlessly from the natural landscape.
How does the design respond to the environment?
The design deliberately blurs the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, taking geometric inspiration for its roof directly from the slope of the surrounding stones. It utilizes material characteristics and roof cantilevers for climate control, while taking advantage of the mountain views to the south and shielding the residence from northerly winds.
How is the home positioned on the land?
Positioned between Izki Natural Park and Izki Golf, the home is strategically sited to maximize privacy between residences and anchor the architecture to its distinct landscape condition.
What amenities does Casa Okil have?
All homes feature courtyards and intermediary gardens designed to support different living configurations while improving thermal and acoustic comfort. Each residence also includes integrated parking, a mudroom, a wine cellar, a txoko, and dedicated storage for bicycles, golf clubs, and other outdoor equipment.
